23 gram darts — the club standard

If there's a default weight in darts, 23g is it. It's the most common weight in club and league play across Australia, and the weight most players land on when they stop experimenting.

The reason is balance. At 23g a dart carries enough weight to fly predictably without needing a hard throw, which forgives a slightly inconsistent release — and nearly everyone's release is slightly inconsistent.

A good place to start

If you're buying your first proper set and have no idea what weight to choose, 23g is the sensible bet. You can refine from there once you've thrown a few thousand darts and learned what your throw actually wants.
