Dartboard lighting has come a long way since we used a spotlight above the board. With several new options on the market, we look at which is the best option for you.
The “traditional” way of lighting a dartboard, was to position a spotlight above the board and angle the light down onto the board. The spotlight could be placed on the cieling with the light shining directly onto the face of the board.
Both options improved the light onto the board, however they created the extra challange of shadowing across the board face. These shadows were a little off putting as well as causing some confusion for players who ere not able to tell where the point of their dart was sticking into the board.
Depending on the type of globe used, glare is also seen as a major downside of using a single spotlight.
The globes used in these spotlights can vary in the quality of light, leading to a lack of consistency when playing at different venues.
With advances in lighting technology there are a couple of great options now available, to improve the lighting in your set-up.
The official rules relating to the lighting of a dartboard are covered under the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) under section 5.6 Lighting

If you are using a stand, a cabinet or simply do not want to attach the light to the wall, then the Corona Vision light is the option for you. If you are looking to have a more permanent set-up then you might be persuaded to select the Plasma light.
The Plasma light is definitely more user friendly when it comes to rotating your dartboard, as it remains in-situ. However, the magnetic feet of the Corona Vision option makes it very easy to change the position of your board.
Both the Corona Vision and Plasma lights offer excellent options for your darting set-up, and each has its own particular benefits. Regardless of which one you choose, you will experience a whole new level of lighting for your dartboard.
