The “traditional” way of lighting a dartboard, was to position a spotlight above the board and angle the light down onto the board. The spotlight could be placed on the cieling with the light shining directly onto the face of the board.
Both options improved the light onto the board, however they created the extra challange of shadowing across the board face. These shadows were a little off putting as well as causing some confusion for players who ere not able to tell where the point of their dart was sticking into the board.
Depending on the type of globe used, glare is also seen as a major downside of using a single spotlight.
The globes used in these spotlights can vary in the quality of light, leading to a lack of consistency when playing at different venues.
With advances in lighting technology there are a couple of great options now available, to improve the lighting in your set-up.
The Corona Vision Light is a very popular option for completing your dartboard set up.
You can use the Corona Vision Light with a dartboard and surround, dartboard cabinet set or just a dartboard on its own.
The feet of the Corona Vision Light are magnetic, allowing them to attach to the steel ring of the dartboard.
Note; the majority of dartboards are manufactured using a steel ring and are perfect for the Corona Vision light. There are a small selection of dartboards that use a plastic ring and they are not suitable for the Corona Vision Light.
The Corona Vision Light also works with any dartboard bracket.
Using 123 individual LED lights, the Corona lighting system illuminates your board and provides consistent light regardless of the ambient lighting in your room.
The latest in LED technology also dramatically improves your vision of the board and with 360 degrees of light the board is virtually shadowless!
As this light is secured to the dartboard, it is suitable for use with portable tripod stands and other set-ups such as the Dartmate Pro 2.
The Winmau Plasma Dartboard Light 4300 is a great choice for those who have a more permanent set-up.
Rather than ultising the metal band around thew board for fixation, this light is secured firmly to the wall behind the dartboard. This allows the Plasma Light 4300 to be used with any board.
The Plasma Light 4300 also gives you a 360-degree illumination. Again the light provides is shadow free.
The Plasma Light 4300 lighting is manufactured from aluminum, which not only strengthens it but also keeps it lightweight.
Which is the best dartboard light 2020?
If you are using a stand, a cabinet or simply do not want to attach the light to the wall, then the Corona Vision light is the option for you. If you are looking to have a more permanent set-up then you might be persuaded to select the Plasma light.
The Plasma light is definitely more user friendly when it comes to rotating your dartboard, as it remains in-situ. However, the magnetic feet of the Corona Vision option makes it very easy to change the position of your board.
